Youth Performance

Entry pathway: swimmers will normally move from from Youth Academy or Marlins Performance or may be new club members.

Focus: to allow advanced swimmers to reach their full potential at regional and national level competition. Squad members will assist with the promoting of the team work ethic and mentor the younger athletes.

Required practice attendance: minimum five sessions per week, to include one morning and one gym session.

Entry time standards and commitment level: should have attained a regional qualifying time +5%. Must compete in national, regional, county, East Invicta and club championships if the required entry times have been achieved, after consultation with the chief coach. Must compete in level 1 and 2 meets and compete in any club team meets for which they are selected.

Training focus: to be able to complete a front crawl training set of 16x100m at T-pace on a 1:30 S/R. Specialisation towards first form or IM events.

Youth Academy

Age 12+

Entry pathway: swimmers will normally move from Youth Performance, Marlins Performance, Marlins, or Club Fitness.

Focus: for older athletes who still aspire to reach their full potential, and have not yet achieved regional QT+5%.

Required practice attendance: minimum three sessions per week, to include one morning, one Sunday and one gym session

Entry time standards and commitment level: should have attained county QT+5%. Must compete in county, East Invicta and club championships if the required entry times have been achieved, after consultation with their coach. Must compete in level 1-3 meets and compete in any club team meets for which they are selected.

Training focus: to be able to complete a front crawl training set of 12x100m at T-pace on a 1:45 S/R. Specialization in first form events and 400m IM.

Marlins Performance

Age 10-12 years

Entry pathway:

Focus: to allow advanced athletes to reach their highest level of competition, develop stroke work, understand how to train effectively and embrace the team work ethic.

Required practice attendance: 10 years, minimum three sessions per week, to include one Sunday session; 11 years, minimum four sessions per week, to include one Sunday session and one gym session; 12 years, minimum four sessions per week, to include one morning session and one gym session.

Entry time standards and commitment level: should have achieved county QT+5%. Must compete in county, East Invicta and club championships if the required entry times have been achieved, after consultation with their coach. Must compete in level 1-3 meets and compete in any club team meets for which they are selected. Must display a positive attitude and commitment to training, with an emphasis on working as a team.

Training focus: to be able to complete a front crawl training set of 12x100m with all protocols on 2:00 S/R; 100m and 200m on all strokes, plus 200m and 400m IM.

Marlins

Age 9-12 years

Entry pathway: transfer from Development

Focus: to improve strokes of athletes who have shown a desire to participate in the sport to its highest levels. To promote the team work ethic, lane discipline, an understanding of how to train effectively, including swimming slowly in training as well as hard, and a competition ethos.

Required standards: all strokes, starts and turns, and IM stroke changes to an ASA legal standard; starts to ASA Competitive Start Award standard.

Required practice attendance: 9-10 years, minimum two sessions per week including Sunday session; 11-12 years, minimum three sessions per week including Sunday session.

Entry time standards and commitment level: Must compete in county, East Invicta and club championships if the required entry times have been achieved, after consultation with their coach. Must be prepared to tavel and compete in level 2-4 meets and compete in any club team meets for which they are selected. Must display a positive attitude and commitment to training, with an emphasis on working as a team. This is a competitive squad in which athletes will be expected to compete with guidance from the coach.

Training focus: 100m and 200m in all strokes, plus 200m IM.

Development

Entry pathway: transfer from National Teaching Plan with Stage 6 or equivalent.

Focus: to maintain a fun element, encouraging a team ethos while introducing basic elements of competitive swimming and also ensuring that land discipline is instilled. Teaching the requirements of the differing intensities of trainng, in particular the need for swimming slowly as well as hard. Emphasis on:

Required practice attendance: minimum two per week.

Commitment level: must enter East Invicta and club championships if they are of age and have achieved the entry times, after consultation with their coach. Must be prepared to compete in any team event for which they selected by the club, also level 4 and development meets. Must display a positive attitude and commitment to training, work as part of the team and learn how to train effectively. This is a competitive squad where athletes are expected to compete with guidance from their coach.

Training focus: development of all strokes and 100m individual medley.

Club Fitness

Age 12+

Entry pathway: transfer from Youth Performance, Youth Academy, Marlins Performance or Marlins.

Focus: for older swimmers who wish to maintain fitness within a training regime. Pease note this is a coached training session and should be approached as such. Fun swimming should take place during public sessions.

Required practise attendance: one per week.

Entry time standards and commitment level: Three Legal strokes and the ability to swim a set of 100m swims. All swimmers are expected to work hard during sessions.

Training focus: fitness.

National Teaching Plan (NTP)

Entry pathway: transfer from upper Stage 5, with the basics of all four strokes and an understanding of the need for lane discipline.

Focus: Maintain the fun element while further developing all four strokes. Start to increase endurance by increasing the distances of swims within the sets. Understand the need to be able to swim slowly in an economical fashion, to be able to race well as the swimmer develops.

Required practice attendance: minimum of two per week of which one should be Sunday morning whenever it is available.

Commitment level: to listen and apply.

Training focus: to complete stages 6, 7 and 8 while further developing stroke and turn technique.
