City of Rochester Open Meet 2008

City of Canterbury Swimmers, Eleanor Weymouth (10) and Jazz Malcolm (18) both took gold medals in all four strokes at the Rochester Open Gala to top their respective age groups and take home the best girl and best boy trophies from the Black Lion pool.

Weymouth had a great start for the day winning both the Freestyle and the Backstroke for 9-10yr olds in the morning session in personal best times..  She followed this up with wins in the afternoon in the butterfly and breaststroke  For Malcolm swimming in the open age group his day started with winning the 100m breaststroke.  He followed this up with wins in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly to complete a clean sweep.  These victories gave the two swimmers maximum points and made them the outright winners of the best girl and best boy trophies.Canterbury also provided a host of other medal winners at the day long gala.  Ben Watson (15) won the 100m backstroke in the 15-16 age group in a very quick time knock over half a second off his previous best; he also won a silver medal in the 100m freestyle.

 

  Katie French (13) won the girls 13-14 age group 100m freestyle with a very controlled swim, Katie also picked up medals in the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly. Kieran Stanley (12) had an amazing day picking up a total of 5 medals, in the 11-12 age group. He won silver in the 50m fly, bronze in the 50m freestyle and backstroke and a 4th place in the 50m Breaststroke.

 He also took 6th place in the 100m freestyle in the open age group a fantastic achievement.  Silver medals were  won by Ben Smith (17) in the open backstroke and Daniel Pettman (11) in the 11-12yr old breaststroke.  Heather Mitchell (13) in the 13-14 yr breaststroke,  Simone Ward(11) in the 11-12yr breaststroke,  Daniel Westbrook in the 11-12 breastroke and Isabelle Cornfoot (13) in the 13-14yr butterfly all came home with bronze medals.

Other medal winners for top 6 finishes were Victoria Champs (9) in the 50m freestyle, fly and breaststroke, Charlotte Ruffle (15) in the 15-16 backstroke and freestyle, Georgia Gardiner (9) in the 50m backstroke and Oliver Brawn (13) in the 100m breaststroke.

On an excellent day for the City of Canterbury Swimming Club there were also good personal bests swum by the following swimmers: Imogen Brawn, Malik Kydd, David Jones, Megan Jones Joey Davies, James Hylands, Kirsty Taylor and Claire Hinde
