Orpington Ojays 2009

25 swimmers of City of Canterbury Swimming Club participated in the Orpington Ojays gala which took place at Black Lion Swimming Pool on Sunday 5 th April. It was a highly successful day for the swimmers with the club being placed third at the end of the day. An excellent result as there were 29 clubs taking part.

Congratulations must firstly go to Dan Seagrove-Castle who had a determined swim in the 200m freestyle resulting in a National Qualifying time of 1.58.46 in the Open event earning him 2nd place. He also achieved 1 st place in the 15 years age group with a terrific swim in 100m freestyle. He came 2nd in 15yrs butterfly and 5th in 50m freestyle.

Oliver Kilbey aged 12, Ege Sever aged 14 and Caroline Robinson also aged 14 all swam impressive races and came first in at least one event. Oliver swam convincingly in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle and finished 1 st place in each event. Ege swam a strong 100m butterfly finishing in 1st place and he also came 3rd in both 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke. Caroline swam extremely well throughout the competition and finished 1 st place in 100m freestyle, 2nd place in both 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke and also 3rd in 50m freestyle.

2nd places were also awarded to Liam Drew (14) in 100m butterfly, Sam Woodard (14) in 200m Open backstroke and Charlie Champs (12) 100m butterfly who all showed determination in their races. Elizabeth Wells (15) swam well in all her events but particularly in 100m backstroke and also 50m freestyle finishing in 2nd place. She came 3 rd in both 200m freestyle Open and Individual Medley Open and 4th in 100m freestyle. Simone Ward (12) had an impressive day finishing 2nd in both 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke and she also came 5th in 100m butterfly. Liam also did well in the 100m freestyle finishing 3rd place. Jessica Devereux aged 11 had a spirited 50m breaststroke race resulting in a deserved 3rd place.

In the under 10 age group, David Jones had an excellent gala finishing 4 th place in both the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke as did Victoria Champs in the under 10s who also finished 4 th in the 50m butterfly. 4 th places were also awarded to Sam Woodard in 100m backstroke and Bethany Seaman (13) in 100m breaststroke. Those achieving 5 th places were Samuel Wilmshurst in the under 10 age group in 50m butterfly, Charlie Champs in 100m freestyle, Heather Mitchell (14) in 100m breaststroke and Stephen Taylor (12) in 100m butterfly who also came 6 th in 100m breaststroke,

Congratulations also to Benedict Esdale, Daniel Westbrook, Oliver Brawn, James Hylands, Cameron Foreman, Katie French, Nicole Prosser, Sophie Wilmshurst and Georgia Gardiner who all swam very well at this event. Many PBs were achieved throughout this gala which is a tribute to the swimmers’ hard work and dedication to training throughout the season.
