Kent ASA award for John Clark

The many years' service which former club Secretary John Clark gave to CCSC have been recognised by the Kent ASA with the award of the Edward G Maples Memorial Trophy, given annually to a volunteer for 'meritorious services to the sport within the County'. Our congratulations to John on a very well deserved award.

ESSA Inter-Divisional Championships, 29-30 October 2010

Elizabeth Wells and Charlotte Davies were both selected to compete at the 61st English Schools Swimming Association Championships in Watford, representing Division 11, which comprises the the best swimmers from schools in Kent and Surrey including those from the Kent London Boroughs.

Elizabeth swum 100 backstroke and the senior free and medley relays, and Charlotte 100 butterfly and senior free and medley relays.

Both the girls had strong individual swims, with Elizabeth making second reserve finalist in her individual 100 backstroke and Charlotte making her individual 100 fly final where only three tenths of a second separated third to fifth place. She was pipped to 5th place but came away with a national qualifying time.

Elizabeth and Charlotte swam in the same relays and both their teams made the finals: eighth in the freestyle and fifth in the medley.

This was the last time that Division 11 will be taking part in the championships along with a few other divisions. Next year a new structure will be introduced with only eight divisions. So it was a sad farewell to the green and gold Divy 11 Wombles!

Full results can be found on the ESSA website.

Achievements ...

Congratulations to Charlotte Davies, Folarin Ogunsola, Dan Seagrove-Castle and Elizabeth Wells on being selected for the Kent team at the inter-counties championships.

Also well done to Domi Szucsova on being selected for the SE Regional Open Water Development team and to Charlotte Davies and Dan Seagrove-Castle for being accepted on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence Programme.

We would also like to wish all our swimmers who are heading off to university the best of luck.

Wednesday 29 September - Abby Taylor-Baptie completed her Channel swim in 14 hours 38 minutes, finishing just after 2pm - a fantastic effort and a reward for months of training and preparation. See her blog at http://abbychannelswim.blogspot.com, which has a link to her sponsorship page for Demelza Hospice.
