MAYOR OPENS CANTERBURY 2008 SWIMMING GALA

The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Carolyn Parry opened the annual Canterbury Open swimming gala on Saturday to great applause from the 250 visiting swimmers and their families. During her speech, the Mayor said it was great to see so many young people involved in a healthy sport and she welcomed those that had travelled a distance to compete in the city. She was also very complimentary of Mercedes Benz of Canterbury, who were the main sponsor of the gala, stating how positive it was to see a major local business support an event in Canterbury like this. Similarly, she enjoyed reviewing the programme of events where she noted numerous local businesses that had sponsored different races during the day. .
