Kent County Championships 2005

City of Canterbury Swimming Club took an amazing 36 County titles at this years' Kent County Championships at Black Lion Leisure Centre, Gillingham. The club also were placed 2nd overall for both the ladies/girls and men/boys, 1st place going to Beckenham.

13-year-old Luke Smith dominated his age group taking a total of 11 County titles including a Junior and Men's open titles in the 1500m freestyle. Luke also won the 13 years boys BAGCAT trophy for points gained during a series of events during the Championships.

Team-mate Aleksandar Krunic 12years also dominated his age group winning an amazing 9 County titles. In the girls 12years section Holly Campbell had great swims, winning 5 County titles, with Holly Ralfe in the girl's 11years section winning 4 titles. In the Boys 14years section Karl Botha won titles in the 200m and 100m Butterfly.

Other County titles were taken by Josh Maley 17/18 years 200m Individual medley, achieving his first National Qualifying time for 2005, Natasha Clark 16 years 50m Backstroke, Stephanie Chaplin 16 years 400m Individual medley, Becci Hill 50m Breaststroke, Natalie Moore 11 years 50m Breaststroke and Sofia Krunic 9 years 200m Breaststroke. Sofia also won the 9-year girls BAGCAT trophy.
County medals were achieved by Francesca Beale, Abigail Cox, Jacob Gainey, Emma Harris, Angus Hewett, Guy Hewett, Danielle Ingleston, Catherine Lough, Drew Mannering, Louis Moore, Amy Ralfe, Emily Ruffle, Rachael Seaman, Craig Simmons, Christopher Smith, Louise Smith, Emma Stanley, Michael Stanley, Ben Watson, Lauren Wraight, Gregory Wintle, Lucy Shilling, Elizabeth Wells and Natalie Shilling.

There were many new Club Records set by the swimmers. Lucy Shilling set a new Junior Club Record for the 4x100m Individual Medley. This was a great achievement as the previous record had stood since 1982 and was the longest standing Club record. Lucy also set new club records for the 14/15 yrs age group 50m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle and a new 14 yrs age group club record for 100m Freestyle. Holly Campbell set new club records in the following events: 12/13 yrs 200m Freestyle, Junior and 12/13 yrs 200m Breaststroke, 12/13 yrs, Junior and Open 100m and 200m Backstroke. Catherine Lough set a new 12/13 yrs record for the 200m Individual Medley and Josh Maley a new record for 400m Individual Medley.

Crystal Palace was the venue for the County relays and City of Canterbury swimmers rose to the challenge.The girls 12yr & under team of Holly Campbell, Natalie Moore, Danielle Ingleston and Holly Ralfe came 2nd in the 200m Medley relay and were County Champions in 200m Freestyle relay by coming 1st

The boys 12yr & under team of Guy Hewett, Jacob Gainey, Ben Watson and Alex Krunic came were county Champions by coming 1st in 200m Freestyle relay and 2 nd in the 200m Medley relay.

The girls 13/14years team of Lauren Wraight, Emily Ruffle, Lucy Shilling and Rachael Seaman came 2nd in the 200m Medley team and 3rd in 200m Freestyle team.

The boys 13/14years team of Luke Smith, Drew Mannering, Angus Hewett and Karl Botha came 3rd in 200m Freestyle and 3rd in 200m Medley relays.

The girls 15/16 years team of Stephanie Chaplin, Amy Ralfe, Emma Stanley and Natasha Clark came 3rd in 200m Freestyle and 2nd in 200m Medley teams.

The Junior Girls team of Amy Ralfe, Stephanie Chaplin, Lauren Wraight and Natasha Clark came 4th in the 200m Medley relay with Natasha Clark, Amy Ralfe, Lucy Shilling and Emma Stanley coming 4th in the 200m Freestyle relay.

In the women's 400m Medley relay, a young team of 12 and 13 year olds swam and gained 3rd place, the team were Holly Campbell, Catherine Lough, Abigail Cox and Rachael Seaman. In the 200m Freestyle relay Louise Smith, Catherine Lough, Holly Campbell and Rachael Seaman achieved an excellent 4th place.
