Herne Bay Open 2008

CANTERBURY TRIO TRIUMPH

Jazz Malcolm, Matt Basford and Dan Seagrove-Castle of the City of Canterbury Swimming Club were all successful in their individual events in their age groups in the Herne Bay Open Gala held on 5 th July at Kingsmead Swimming Pool, Canterbury.

Jazz Malcolm aged 18 swam a fantastic race in the final of the over 15 year olds 100m Butterfly winning it in a time of 1.03.99. He also came first in the final of the 100m Freestyle in 55.38. Matt Basford also aged 18 years had a convincing swim in the 100m Backstroke for the over 15 year olds and won this event comfortably in a time of 1.03.44. Matt also came 4 th in the final of the 100m Freestyle. Dan Seagrove-Castle performed well throughout the day and his usual determination earned a place in the final in all four events in 13/14 age group. In 100m Butterfly he came first place in a time of 1.06.93. He also achieved 2 nd place in 100m Freestyle, 4 th place in 100m Backstroke and 5 th place in 100m Breaststroke.

31 swimmers from Canterbury SC entered this gala and they all swam extremely well with 13 swimmers qualifying for 27 finals. Lucy Morgan in 9/10 age group had a successful day achieving 4th place in the final of 50m Butterfly, 5th in 100m Freestyle and 6th in 100m Breaststroke. Bethany Seaman -11/12 age group showed form and did very well in three finals coming 3rd in 100m Backstroke, 3rd in 100m Freestyle and 6th in 100m Breaststroke. Elizabeth Wells qualified for the finals in the three events she entered and her determined swim in the 100m Breaststroke earned her 2nd place. She also finished 4th in 100m Freestyle and 4th in 100m Butterfly.

The other finalists were Liam Drew 13/14 age group coming 4th in 100m Freestyle and 6th in 100m Backstroke; Nick Boylan over 15yrs age group 3rd in 100m Breaststroke and 6 th in 100m Backstroke; Sam Woodard 13/14 age group 5th in 100m Breaststroke; Nicole Prosser 13/14 age group 6th in 100m Backstroke; Ben Esdale 11/12 age group 6 th in 100m Breaststroke and Jessica Devereux 9/10 age group came 5th in 100m Backstroke.

Congratulations to all swimmers who competed in this gala as many PBs were achieved throughout the day which is a credit to their hard work in training throughout the year. Well done also to Georgia Gardiner, Samuel Wilmshurst and his sister Sophie, James Hylands, Finn Hewett, Kieran Stanley, Daniel Westbrook, Jamie Woodward, Joseph Davies, Heather Mitchell, Katie French, Claire Hinde, Sanchez Seagrove-Castle, Reece Parsons, Charlie Marriott, Simone Ward and Georgia Smith.
