Club record broken

Congratulations to Tom Slater, who has broken the club record for the 400m individual medley in the junior (16U) category. His time of 4:46.28 set in the Kent championships improves on Luke Smith's 4:49.35 from 2006. We don't keep 400m IM records for the 14/15 age group - as a 15 year old he would have that as well... 18 June 2013

New starter in the club

Well done to Hilde Koets, who has qualifed as a J2S (ASA qualified starter), passing her assessment at the Margate gala following the necessary study, training and practice. 3 June 2013

Open water officiating

Alison Allen from Thanet Swim Club has passed on the following information about learning to officiate at open water events:

The ASA South East Region Open Water section Manager is hoping to organise a training day to recruit Open Water officials within our region. I have been working with him to organise some open water events including this training day to try and raise the profile of open water swimming in the South East. We have provisionally booked 22nd June 2013 at Holborough Lake in Snodland to hold the training day and are trying to circulate the information to as many local clubs as possible to try and generate some interest. The course will take only one day to complete and no previous experience/qualifications are necessary although an interest in swimming would probably be helpful!

I would be grateful if you would consider circulating this information to your club members to see if anyone may be interested in taking part in this training day.

Please feel free to pass on my email address [via ccsc.membership@gmail.com] to anyone that may be interested and I will be happy to forward more information.

New official qualifies

Congratulations to Tony McDonnell, who qualified as a Judge (J1) in March 2013, at the Kent schools gala. He worked hard to gain this qualification and will soon be a licenced official for CCSC. Well done Tony!

CCSC is always on the lookout for new officials. Training is offered free of charge and there are other qualified officials in the club who are always willing to offer advice and support.

20/3/13

Success for CCSC officials

The East Invicta championships in October 2012 produced some notable achievements for CCSC volunteers as well as swimmers. Several City of Canterbury officials are improving their skills and gaining qualifications. During the first EI weekend Adam Morgan passed his Starter's course and at the second weekend Hilde Koets passed her Judge 2 assessment. Lorraine Gardiner (already a qualified timekeeper) has started her Judge 1 course.

As a club we are always in need of officials. If you would like to find out about volunteering as an official, with whatever time you have to spare, don't hesitate to speak to one of our current officials, or let the committee know. They are always more than happy to talk. Courses are offered free of charge to anyone interested, and there is a friendly system of mentoring in operation.

This also applies to those interested in gaining a coaching qualification. Without qualified officials we would be unable to promote our galas, and we are also expected to provide officials when our swimmers attend away meets.

Team of the Year Award

Collecting Team of the Year award

City of Canterbury SC have been placed third in team of the year section in the Kent Regional News & Media sports awards 2012. Some of our swimmers went to collect the award at a dinner at Eastwell Manor on 15 November - see the Canterbury Times newspaper of 22 November for a report and picture.

East Invicta Championships 2012

Congratulations to Dan Seagrove-Castle and Joshua Cowham on new championship records in the open 100m freestyle (53.02) and 9/10 years 50m breaststroke (40.64).
