Black Lion License 2 Open May 2008

Charlie Champs of City of Canterbury Swimming Club was awarded Top Male swimmer at the Black Lion Open Meet on 24th and 25th May.  He was 1st place in 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly in age group 11/12 and was placed 2nd in 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 3rd place in 200m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. These excellent results gave Charlie six personal best times and top points to achieve the Top Male award. Charlie certainly was a true champ that weekend.

Canterbury Swimming Club had a very successful weekend at the Black Lion with 28 swimmers competing ranging from 10 to 18 year olds.  Dan Seagrove-Castle swam a fantastic 200m freestyle winning it convincingly and obtaining a National Qualifying Time of 2.01.23. He also came 1st in the 400m freestyle, 2nd in 100m freestyle and 3rd in 200m butterfly. Guy Hewett had a terrific swim in the 50m freestyle and he also obtained a National Qualifying Time of 25.93 coming 3rd.  Congratulations to these boys. Jazz Malcolm showed his determination in the freestyle races by coming 1st in the 50m and 3rd in the 100m

 

Sophie Weymouth had an impressive weekend achieving 1st place in 200m IM, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle. She came 2nd in 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 3rd place in 200m breaststroke.  Her sister Eleanor Weymouth also did very well in the 9/10 year age group coming 2nd in 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 3rd in 200m backstroke. Helen Robinson took 1st place in 100m butterfly and 5th place in 400m freestyle. Her sister Caroline Robinson was placed 2nd in 100 breaststroke and 6th in the 200m IM 13/14 age group.

Bethany Seaman swam extremely well achieving 9 personal best times and coming 3rd in the 50m and 400m freestyle; 4th in 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke and 5th in 50 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 100m freestyle in the 11/12 age group. Liam Drew also had some excellent races achieving personal best times in each of the seven races he competed in and was placed 4th in the 50m freestyle, 5th in the 100m backstroke and 6th in the 200m freestyle in age group 13/14

Ben Esdale competed well in age group 11/12 coming 3rd in 100m breaststroke, 4th in 200m breaststroke and 6th in 50m breaststroke. Dominika Szucsova was placed 2nd in 200m butterfly and 4th in 50m butterfly for 13/14 age group.  Oliver Kilby had some superb races knocking several seconds off his times and being placed 3rd in 200m backstroke, 4th in 100m freestyle and 6th in 200m freestyle in age group 11/12.  Michael Stanley came 3rd in 200m freestyle and Ben Watson was placed 3rd in 100m backstroke and 4th in 50 backstroke.

Jessica Devereux and Victoria Champs both had very good swims in the 9/10 age group. Jessica was placed 3rd in the 50m breaststroke and Victoria came 6th in the 50m butterfly. In the 13/14 age group Nicole Prosser came 3rd in the 50m backstroke, 5th in the 200m backstroke and 6th in the 100m backstroke.

An excellent weekend for the City of Canterbury Swimming Club and good swims by all competitors including: Finn Hewett, Georgia Smith, Kirsty Taylor, Stuart Lindsay, Reece Parsons, Ryan Powell, Ben Walsh, Daniel Westbrook, Imogen Brawn and Katie French.

In fact all these talented swimmers achieved 57 personal best times between them proving their hard work and dedication in training resulted in some fantastic races. Well done.
